The Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the report on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) on Sunday evening during a meeting held at the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s residence. With the cabinet’s approval to the UCC draft report the government is all set to present the UCC Bill during the Uttarakhand Assembly session on February 6.
The Pushkar Singh Dhami-led Uttarakhand government on Saturday held a cabinet meeting to discuss and approve the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which would make way for the BJP-ruled state to become the first in the country to adopt the UCC.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister spoke to reporters and said that many issues were discussed in the meeting, adding that “in this session”, they will bring UCC, “whatever formalities are being completed”.

This comes after a government-appointed panel headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, on Friday submitted a voluminous document to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who said the “long-awaited moment has arrived”.
Justice Ranjana Agnihotri, Head of Uttarakhand UCC Committee reached Dehradun on Friday and was accompanied by the member secretary of the state’s UCC Committee, Ajay Mishra.
On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said bringing UCC in the state was their electoral promise.
Ahead of the proposed Assembly session, scheduled later this week, Uttarakhand police have instructed officials concerned to maintain peace and ensure “flawless security” in their respective districts.
This order comes amid the possibility of protests that are expected to be staged by few organisations against the presentation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the Assembly.
According to Uttarakhand’s Headquarters Director General of Police, AP Anshuman, Additional Director General of Police, Crime and Law and Order conducted a meeting on Thursday with the circle and district in-charges and Chief Security Officer through video conference, in view of the upcoming assembly session.
