Tributes paid to Verghese Kurien

Prominent personalities paid tributes to Verghese Kurien, the pioneer of ‘White Revolution’, who died on Sunday. In his condolence message, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said Kurien had played a key role in transforming India into a major milk-producing country.

Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said  that Kurien was instrumental in making the nation self-sufficient in milk production. He stands as an apt role model for young entrepreneurs.

Water Resources Minister P J Joseph said that if Kerala had properly made use of the services of Kurien, the state could have made giant strides in the dairy sector.

Through the ‘White Revolution,’ Kurien played an important role in including milk in the daily diet of the common man, Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar said. Before the advent of ‘White Revolution’, milk consumption was viewed as a luxury for many. Kurien’s role in achieving a transformation is a model for the entire nation, he said.
