HYDERABAD: An engineering graduate from Kurnool district, who was pursuing a computer course at a private institute in the city, ended her life near her institute reportedly due to the poor financial condition of her family.21-year-old Umamaheshwari from Madhavi Nagar in Kurnool did her B Tech at a private institute in Tirupati last year. Her father Nagabhushanam is an employee of the electricity department. She was the second of three daughters.Umamaheshwari came to the city two months ago after completing her B.Tech and joined Oracle course at a private institute at SR Nagar and was staying at a hostel in Ameerpet. About 20 days back, her father fell ill and she rushed home where she spent 15 days nursing him. “Nagabushanam is a diabetic and his leg had to be amputated,” SR Nagar police sub-inspector Bhadraiah said. When she returned, she started staying at her friend’s residence at Dilsukhnagar. On Tuesday, she called her elder sister asking for Rs 1,000 but the latter expressed her inability to help. Umamaheshwari was in a depressed state since then. On Wednesday morning, Umamaheshwari came to the institute along with her friend. But as the classes started, her friend decided to go back. “Umamaheshwari stayed backed near the institute and later, consumed poison. She then called her friend saying she wanted to go home. On the bus to Dilsukhnagar, Umamaheshwari started to vomit and was shifted to a corporate hospital at Malakpet,” Bhadraiah said.As her condition turned critical, she was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment. “Poor financial condition of her family is suspected to be the reason for her suicide,” the SI said.
