New Delhi: It's not everyday that Tiger Woods fights a battle for redemption. But after missing just his second cut at the British Open, Woods is doing just that with a new gameplan in place to roar back.
"I just had a bad stretch and you can't have bad stretches in major championships. You just can't afford to do it and expect to not only make the cut but expect to win the golf tournament and I didn't keep it together during that stretch, I didn't make any birdies during that stretch or turn it around or ... I made two doubles ... And you just can't afford to do that and it cost me," says Woods.
It's been a fortnight since he missed the cut at the Open Championship, but the blow to his pride continues to hurt him.
As he prepares for the Buick Open, Woods will try something he has never done before. He will play in back-to-back events ahead of the PGA Championship as he prepares for his last chance to win a major title this year.
"Yes, it's something I've, I don't think I've ever done is played two events prior to the PGA. I usually have played one event and usually it's this event when it was the week prior to the PGA. But we're going to have a busy stretch and I think that's the way that it's Kind of turned out with the World Golf Championships, the majors and then the play-off events ... It's a busy stretch at the end of the year," says Woods.
If Woods is looking for a little confidence boost after a disappointing British Open, he could not have chosen a better event than the Buick Invitational as he has won the title twice already.
"Absolutely. I've played well here in the past and, hopefully, I can play well here and keep it going over the next two weeks after that," he says.
After Buick, the next stop for Woods will be the WCG event in Akron before he gets down planning his strategy for the PGA Championship.
