An advisor to the Government of Telangana, Mohammad Ali Shabbir is currently in the headlines due to his pen of historical importance. As per Local 18 Telangana, he was spotted with this pen while the Telangana Assembly was going on. The historical link with this pen is its association with the US boxer, the late Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr, arguably the best boxer to have ever taken over the ring. Later, he embraced Islam and became Muhammad Ali and attained recognition globally. Not only boxing, he was also an activist and fought on behalf of black people as a humanitarian. Muhammad Ali came to be known as Boxer Ali by the people.
Muhammad Ali was very fond of pens and one such pen was recognised as a promotional brand for him. This pen is golden in colour and the figures and letter on it commemorates boxer Ali’s accomplishments. The pen cap features a white Montblanc logo with the number 1 honouring boxer Ali’s first world title. Another remarkable element of this expensive pen is that it has Muhammad Ali’s boxing belt and gloves inlaid in 18-karat gold engraved on it.
Now, this Montblanc pen has come to be known as the Boxing Ali brand and is priced at around Rs 1,00,000. Telangana Government Advisor Mohammad Ali Shabbir was gifted this pen by a friend.
According to Forbes magazine, Mont Blanc has come up with the latest Great Characters pen collection in 2023. This collection comprises 3 editions representing Muhammad Ali’s 3 major boxing victories. Each comprises references to his career, i.e.- victory belt-inspired clips and the butterfly embellished cap referencing Ali’s inimitable style – Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The collection also incorporates a leather notebook decorated with the boxer’s silhouette in one of his iconic victory poses. It also has a special edition ink in green.
Reports added that the design of the pen’s cap represents a punching bag. On the other hand, the blue guilloche lacquer winding around the cap creates the textured look of a wrapping. Boxers use this to protect their hands inside their gloves. A gold inlay depicts a dove as a symbol of peace.
