Introducing a new site that makes buying and selling remarkably easy..

HYDERABAD: The net savvy know that the internet is the easiest (and most convenient) bet when buying or selling something. And the latest to join the majors like eBay and Amazon is Gumroad, a three-month-old site based out of San Francisco, that promises a hassle-free buying and selling experience. You can sell anything that ‘you can upload or link to’, and you get to post links to your product on Twitter and Facebook too. For instance, if you are purchasing an MP3 track, simply enter your card details and the payment is processed immediately, after which you get a download link to your file. Within two weeks, Gumroad’s traffic reached where Pinterest’s was 10 months after its launch.Thinking bigAsk him how his site is different from eBay, and Sahil Lavingia, the founder, answers, “Gumroad is a lot faster, simpler, and cheaper. It is a different market today that requires different solutions.” To be precise, Gumroad takes a five per cent cut of sales, compared to eBay’s nine per cent, Amazon’s 50 per cent and iTunes’s 30 per cent. Back to Lavingia-the 19-yearold dropped out of college (University of Southern California) to join the founding team at Pinterest, the social media website, before he started Gumroad. He and his website recently made headlines for raising $7million funding, and when asked how he plans to use it, Lavingia answers, “To hire great people.”All in oneThe site targets both individuals and any business you can think of, works with all major credit cards, and can be used for digital and physical content. It also lets sellers collect shipping information if needed and Lavingia assures us that the site is as relevant for the Indian market as the US.  Details: gumroad.com
