New Delhi: Abu Salem and Mustafa Dossa were, on Friday, convicted by a special TADA court for the deadly 1993 blasts in Mumbai. The story of Salem, a former Dawood aide, and Dossa, brother of one of the main accused, Tiger Memon, right from their arrest to their conviction has been ‘colourful’, as termed by many.
Dossa, since 2003, has been housed in Arthur Road Jail after he was deported from Dubai. Salem, considered more composed, joined him seven years later in 2010.
In July 2010, Dossa had allegedly stabbed Salem with a sharpened metal spoon. Soon after the attack, Salem was shifted to Taloja prison.
In 2015, a complaint was lodged against Dossa for conducting ‘auditions’ of women for modelling assignments in Dubai. Dossa apparently did so in Mumbai sessions court premises. One of the selected women was reported to have received a token amount, only to be looted by his men later. His controversial jail term took another turn last year when Dossa allegedly spent a night in Porbandar, where he was being taken for another hearing, with a woman claiming to be his wife. A police report later said that the woman had been given a fake marriage certificate to meet Dossa.
Earlier this year, judge GA Sanap, was forced to bar Dossa and another co-accused Abdul Qayoom from coming to court. The duo were allegedly caught loitering in the corridors, which was considered a lapse on the part of the officials.
