THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph sought the support of Red Cross on the issue of waste management.  He was delivering the presidential address during the International Red Cross Day at Red Cross hall here on Tuesday.  ‘’The government alone could not solve the waste management issue. Organisations like Red Cross can help government in solving the crisis. Kerala was a model in health and education fields. However, the piling up of garbage in urban-rural areas has resulted in outbreak of various diseases’’ the Minister said. Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma inaugurated the programme. He said Red Cross was a model in terms of humanitarian work and mutual support. ‘’Efficiency is the hallmark of Red Cross volunteers,’’ he said.Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb said Red Cross clubs in schools will be strengthened. Chief Secretary K Jayakumar said Red Cross volunteers must oppose all evils in the society. Awards in the name of Red Cross founder Jean Henri Dunant were distributed to Utradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma, K Jayakumar, B Sugathakumari and Dr Hareendran Nair. Minister Abdu Rabb presented the awards to best social worker in the district, best doctor and Fire force officer. C Divakaran MLA, Mayor K Chandrika, councillor P S Saroja and Dr Shaji Prabhakaran attended the function.
