New Delhi: The recommendation to remove AIIMS Director P Venugopal from his post on Wednesday has left the noted cardiologist stunned, prompting him to stay indoors to avoid the probing media.
Venugopal, whose dismissal was recommended by the apex body of AIIMS following his face-off with Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, met only a few colleagues and refused to speak to reporters despite their repeated attempts.
Those who visited him at his official quarters inside the AIIMS campus said he was upset and stunned at the sudden, but not entirely unexpected, development and also at the way he was treated at the meeting of AIIMS's Institute Body.
"He (Venugopal) said he was stunned and did not know what to say," one of his close friends and former colleagues said after meeting him.
During the meeting, Venugopal was asked to sit outside the hall while the Institute Body, the main decision-making authority of AIIMS that is headed by Ramadoss, discussed issues concerning him.
The Institute Body then passed a resolution recommending that Venugopal be sacked for violating the code of conduct for government employees.
