KOLLAM:  Studies of her two children tops the preference list for Doramma, the wife of killed fisherman Valentine Jelestine.  Speaking to Express, a day after receiving the compensation of `1 crore as per a settlement with the Italian Government, she said that her children’s future has to be secured and the compensation amount will be used primarily for it.She said that there were some debts which  had to be paid off. Originally hailing from Poothurai, Jelestine had settled down at Moothakkara, a little coastal village near the city, after marrying Doramma some 18 years ago. The family lives in a concrete house in a fishing hamlet at Moothakkara near here. “There are some debts relating to the house and this will be paid using the compensation amount,’’ she said. The couple’s elder son Derrick,17, has completed his higher secondary from St Aloysius Higher Secondary School, Kollam, and is currently appearing for the State engineering entrance examination. He aspires to join an engineering course. Asked about rumours about Derrick going to Italy for higher studies, she said that there was no such offer from any quarter. The younger son V Jeen,10, is a class 4 student of Deva Mata School here. Meanwhile, Doramma, who had stopped studies at class 10, is set to join government service. ‘’The appointment is at Vikas Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, and I am asked to report after two months. I have conveyed my wish to get a posting in Kollam as I have two children to take care of,’’ she said.
