Suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, arrested in connection with the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) scam and currently lodged in Chanchalguda Special Prison for Women, was admitted to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Tuesday after she complained of severe sciatica nerve pain in her left leg. She has been suffering from the pain for the last three months.
Prison authorities took her to the emergency ward of the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) following her complaint to the doctors at a medical session in the Chanchalguda jail. The doctors at the OGH referred her to NIMS and opined that she needed to undergo an operation failing which the pain would only increase.
“Normally, the pain in such cases is felt in lower back, parts of leg and foot. In addition to pain, which is sometimes severe, there may be numbness, muscular weakness, pins and needles or tingling and difficulty in moving or controlling the leg. Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body. Pain can be severe in prolonged exposure to cold weather,'' a doctor said.
According to the jail authorities, Srilakshmi has been suffering from sciatica nerve pain in her left leg since last few months.
Since three weeks, she was being treated at the Osmania General Hospital for severe back pain. Sciatica nerve runs through the lower back of each leg.
