CHENNAI: Special teachers will be appointed in State-run schools to coach and take care of students with dyslexia, Minister for School Education C Ve Shanmugam informed the House on Monday.In his reply to the debate on the demands for grants for School Education, Shanmugam regretted that teachers and parents often harassed students with learning disorders. “About 10 to 15 per cent of the students are dyslexic. To identify students with learning disorders and to take special care of them, exclusive teachers will be appointed and `42 crore has been allocated for the purpose,” Shanmugam noted.“To upgrade the infrastructure of schools, `498 crore has been allocated. Focus will be given to ensure hygiene at all schools. The Chief Minister has laid stress on encouraging women’s education and several schemes are being implemented to achieve it,” Shanmugam said. Orphaned and destitute street children, numbering 61,000, will be brought to schools to ensure a bright future, the School Education Minister added.
