Spain: Spain has declared 3 days official mourning over the death of 153 people in the Spainair jet crash. Meanwhile relatives of the dead struggled to identify charred bodies from the wreckage.

The crash is Spain's worst aviation disaster since 1983. Airline officials refused to comment on the possible cause but said the flight had been delayed due to a problem with the air intake heating system ahead of the jet's second takeoff attempt.

The fault was isolated and the aircraft was dispatched for flight within the set standards in the maintenance manuals of the MB 80's

A Spanish tourist jet carrying 172 people had careered off a Madrid airport runway and broke up inflames, killing 153 people in the country's worst air crash in more than 20 years

A Spanair spokesman said the passenger list would not be released until next of kin had been notified.
