Sonia Gandhi inaugurated Infosys' Global Education Centre.

Mysore: Overwhelmed by the sprawling, state-of-the-art campus of IT bellwether Infosys, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday repeatedly said it gave her an opportunity to "bunk political classes" for a little while.

Sonia Gandhi visited the Infosys Technologies Ltd campus to inaugurate the Global Education Centre (GEC-II), the latest infrastructural addition to the IT giant meant for training its new recruits.

"I am happy to be here. I also would like to share the secret of my happiness. Coming here has given me an opportunity to bunk my political classes for a few hours," Sonia Gandhi said addressing a gathering of several hundred people, mostly young employees of Infosys.

"I have toured the entire campus and liked it a lot. Honestly, I would like to bunk my classes for a few more days to stay here," she said, smiling.

After inaugurating the centre, the United Progressive Alliance Chairperson also planted a sapling and toured parts of the campus, spread across 337 acres of land.

"It's a pleasure to be in the beautiful campus of Infosys. It has a marvellous setting for a university to train and educate young minds," Sonia Gandhi said.

With the coming up of the second unit of GEC-II, along with the already existing GEC-I, Infosys can now train and educate 14,000 new recruits at the same time. Given its infrastructure and size of operations, Infosys' GEC becomes the largest corporate education centre in the world, say sources at Infosys.

The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Chairman and Chief Mentor of Infosys N R Narayana Murthy, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah.
