New Delhi: A special CBI court will pronounce the judgement in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case on December 21. Sheikh, a petty criminal, was killed along with his wife Kausar Bi near Gujarat's Gandhinagar in November 2005 by police in an encounter which is alleged to have been staged.
Tulsiram Prajapati, who was with the couple at the time of shootout, became a witness to the crime. But he, too, was killed in another encounter in December 2006, when the police claimed he was trying to escape.
Final arguments in the much publicised case ended on Wednesday after lawyers of the 22 accused made their submissions to Special CBI Judge SJ Sharma.
In July, the high court had reserved the verdict on five revision applications challenging the discharge granted in the case by a trial court to Gujarat IPS officer Rajkumar Pandian, former Gujarat ATS chief DG Vanzara, Gujarat police officer NK Amin, Rajasthan cadre IPS officer Dinesh MN and Rajasthan police constable Dalpat Singh Rathod.
