BANGALORE: Former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on Thursday advised students to break barriers of impossibilities to become unique persons.Speaking after inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Kalam said, “Students should have four qualities - aiming big, continuously acquiring knowledge, working hard and perseverance - to achieve great things.One should aim always big since having a small goal in life is a sin.” Exhorting students to focus on invention, Kalam said that one must follow great personalities and read good books to attain knowledge.“You have to fight hardest battle and never stop until you acquire the necessary knowledge to become a unique personality,” he advised the students.The former president said that engineering students should not become employment seekers.“You should become employment generators,” the former president said.Advising the students of MSRIT to implement MSRIT PURA (providing urban amenities in rural areas) at one of the villages outside Bangalore by establishing physical connectivity, electronic connectivity and knowledge connectivity leading to economic prosperity to 50,000 to 1,00,000 people, he said, “I expect you to make such scheme as a laboratory for your institution.” Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said that the spectacular growth of MSRIT was a dream accomplished through two generations of M S Ramaiah family.“The MSRIT has become an integral part of higher learning in our state.I am sure that this institution will take professional education to greater heights in the days to come,” Gowda said.
