As many as six people, including the driver, were killed on Sunday and two others injured when their car rammed into a tree on the roadside in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district, police said.

The accident took place early this morning near Dahikonga village under Kondagaon police station limits on NH-30 when the victims were returning to their native place Tongpal (Sukma) after attending a wedding in Kanker, Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Atri said.

When the vehicle carrying eight youths reached Dahikonga, around 15 kms away from Kondagaon town towards Jagdalpur, the driver apparently lost control over the steering and the vehicle rammed into the tree, the ASP said. A police team was rushed to the spot and the victims were admitted to Jagdalpur hospital, he said.

The impact of the collision was so severe that five of the victims, including the driver, died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, he said, adding that the deceased were in the age group of 20-30 years. The two injured were undergoing treatment at Jagdalpur hospital, he said. The deceased are yet to be identified, he added.
