PARADIP: District SP S Debdatta Singh and Collector Narayan Chandra Jena have been asked to appear in person on February 21 by the Chairman of National Commission for SCs and STs, PL Punia, in the Kujang firecrackers’ explosion case, on Tuesday.State Dalit Association president Ashok Mallick and president of Jagatsinghpur Ambedkar Association Manoj Bhoi had sought the intervention of the Commission seeking proper inquiry into the cracker explosion case and compensation to the injured persons besides the bereaved families.After hearing their grievances, Punia summoned the Collector and the SP on December 27 and January 10 but they failed to appear before the Commission. On Tuesday, while the Collector sent a letter regarding his failure to appear due to the panchayat poll duty and obtained permission to appear on February 22, after the elections. The Commission sources said warrant will be issued if the SP fails to appear before the Commission on the next date.
