Close on the heels of the Adi-Dravidar scholarship fund scam, another alleged scandal involving misappropriation of subsidy funds meant for farmers under the micro irrigation scheme has surfaced in Namakkal district.
According to informed sources, Collector J Kumaragurubharan has ordered an inquiry on the basis of a complaint submitted by a retired Government employee M Mahalingam. According to Mahalingam, “about `20.58 crore was distributed to farmers under the subsidy scheme for micro irrigation in all the 15 blocks in Namakkal since 2007.
Approximately 40% of the funds are believed to have been siphoned off.” Mahalingam alleged that subsidy was wrongfully drawn in the names of farmers who had not cultivated crops.
“The amount involved is not very high, we will take further action,” Collector Kumaragurubharan said.
