Subject: Arrest of Mr Sanjeev Bhatt in connection
with the offence registered as CR No I - 149/2011, with Ghatlodaia Police STation, Ahmedabad.
Sir,
My husband viz Sanjeev Bhatt has been picked up from his residence at about 3.45 pm on 30/9/2011 and thereafter is arrested by the Police Officer, Ghatlodaia Police Station, in connection with the offence registered on 22/6/2011 as Crime Relster No I - 149/2011 with Ghatlodaia Police Station/ Ahmedabd for the offence under Sections 189, 193, 195, 341 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code.
Mr Sanjeev Bhatt has been surprisingly shifted from Ghatlodaia Police Station about 2.00 Hrs back and has been now detained in the Police Lock up in the City Crime Branch, at Gaekwad Haveli, Raikhad, Ahmedabad. It may be noted that the City Crime Branch has bad reputation of most of the fake encounters in Ahmedabad. The City Crime Branch is directly under the control of the present Chief Minister.
I therefore request you to follow the judgment reported In 1997 (2) GLR 1631 (SC) in the case of DK Basu, wherein the Honorable Supreme Court has laid down the guidelines to be followed by the police after arresting an accused. I also request you to kindly allow Advocate of Mr Sanjeev Bhatt to remain present at the time of interrogation just as Advocate was allowed during the Interrogation of Mr Amit Shah as per the order of the Honorable Gujarat High Court in Special Criminal Application NO 1497/2010 dated 6/8/2010.
You are requested not to give any discriminatory treatment as all citizens are equal in the eyes of Law and my husband is arrested merely because few politicians apprehend serious action against them.
Since my husband has been courageously and honestly fighting for justice, he has been arrested today and I have very strong apprehension that he would be manhandled badly and his life is under threat.
I state that my husband Mr Sanjeev Bhatt has strong apprehension of being physically ill-treated or even put to his life in danger.
I therefore request you, to kindly initiate appropriate steps to safeguard life and liberty of my husband.
Thanking you,
Yours Sincerely,
Shweta Sanjeev Bhatt
