Samsung India targets 60 pc of smartphone market
The company would consolidate its position in the smartphone segment by creating new segments within the category.

Kolkata: Samsung India is targetting to capture 60 per cent of the mobile smartphone market in the country this year, a company official said.

"Our market share in the mobile smartphone market is 41 per cent. We want to raise it to 60 per cent in 2012," country head (mobile & IT) of Samsung India Ranjit Yadav said.

Launching the Samsung dual SIM smartphones here today, Yadav said that the mobile smartphone segment in India was growing at a staggering pace of 220 per cent.

He said that the mobile phone business was contributing to more than 50 per cent of the company's annual revenue in the country.

Yadav said that the company would consolidate its position in the smartphone segment by creating new segments within the category.

Last year, the company's revenue was Rs 20,000 crore, he said.

He said that on the whole, Samsung was the number two player in the mobile segment in India.
