PATHANAMTHITTA: The decision to reduce pollution in Njunangar, a tributary of Pampa river, will be taken at a meeting of the high-power committee on Sabarimala Infrastructure Development to be held at Sabarimala on Wednesday.Talking to the Express, Additional Chief Secretary and chairman of the high-power committee on Sabarimala Infrastructure Development K Jayakumar said that the technical members of the committee and the experts from the State Pollution Control Board would finalise the measures to be taken to reduce the flow of pollutants from Sannidhanam into the Njunangar during the forthcoming pilgrimage season.The meeting would look into the possibility of setting up of storage tanks to prevent the overflow of pollutants from the toilet tanks located at Sannidhanam, Jayakumar said.The meeting would consider the suggestion of chemical treatment of the sewage accumulated in the existing tanks at Sannidhanam, he said.APPROACH ROADJayakumar said that modalities for the construction of the approach road for the proposed Army Bailey bridge at Sannidhanam would be finalised at a meeting with Police Housing Construction Corporation chairman and managing director Jangpangi at Sabarimala on Wednesday.A technical team of the corporation would be accompanying the CMD to finalise the implementation of the Rs 90-lakh-approach road work, he said. Jayakumar said as per the schedule, the work on the approach road will begin on August 1. The approach road will have to be completed before August 31 so that the work on the Bailey bridge by the Army could be launched on September 1, Jayakumar said.SWAMI AYYAPPAN ROADJayakumar said that the Rs 1-crore project to renovate the Pampa-Marakottam Swami Ayyappan Road would be decided at the meeting.Thiruvananthapuram-based Subramaniam Trust would implement the work with the overall objective to make the road motorable, he said.NILACKAL PARKING AREA PROJECT Jayakumar said that the contract for the Nilackal parking area project would be awarded on July 26.
