HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd will build a Rs 7-crore commercial complex at Putlibowli, for rehabilitating traders and hawkers affected by road-widening in Badi Chowdi-Sultan Bazar areas.The complex, to be built on a plot of 2150 sq yards, will have 2 cellars and 5 floors with total built-up area of about 77,000 sq feet. It will have ample parking area in the cellars with lack of parking facilities being a major problem for customers in the old area. The complex will be a green building with natural ventilation and other eco-friendly features.The building will be about 50 m from the Metro corridor-I (Miyapur-LB Nagar) and 300 m from Sultan Bazar on corridor-II (JBS-Falaknuma). It will be connected with both corridors through skywalks at third and fourth floor levels, said NVS Reddy.HMR managing director NVS Reddy said they will organise a design competition, inviting entries from practicing architects for providing special facilities for hawkers in the new complex. The top three designs will be awarded prize money of Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively. The last date for submission of designs is September 15. Selection will be done by a five-member selection committee, consisting of reputed architects and general managers of Works and Land Management of HMR.The shops will be used for accommodating affected traders (both owners and tenants) at affordable rentals, far below market rates. The open areas of the complex will be allotted to affected hawkers, the MD said. He also invited suggestions from general public and local traders regarding facilities needed, so as to make the complex a unique place to fulfil denizens' shopping needs at affordable prices.
