Director Rajiv Chilaka has included action, adventure, time travel and magic in the film to woo young audiences.

New Delhi: Chhota Bheem is one of the most loved cartoon characters among kids today. And summer vacation is undoubtedly the best time to encash this popularity. Just released animation film 'Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan' revolves around Chhota Bheem and his gang.

Green Gold Animation has produced the film in association with PVR Pictures. Director Rajiv Chilaka has included action, adventure, time travel and magic in the film to woo young audiences.

The film starts in Bheem's town Dholakpur, where his friends are secretly planning his birthday party. Damyaan a Sorcerer is granted a wish by 'Book of Magi' to become immortal along with a curse that he is restricted to his palace in Sonapur. He needs a kind-hearted king to free him from the curse.

Damyaan's associates lure Dholakpur's king Indravarma with the hidden treasure in Sonapur. Bheem, Chutki, Kalia, Raju, Bholu, Dholu and Jaggu accompany the king to Sonapur. King Indravarma sets Damyaan free by mistake. Damyaan puts everyone in prison. A gypsy tells the secret of destroying Damyaan and saving the world to Bheem. How Bheem uses his bravery and new found magical powers to get back the 'Book of Magi' and kill Damyaan is what the film is about.

This 2D animation film has a simple, but well narrated story line. The visuals may remind you of Hollywood films like ‘The Mummy’ and ‘The Matrix’ at times. There is not much difference between TV and big screen avatar of Bheem.

The number of children films made in India is still very low. In such a scenario, the producers need to be applauded for a brave effort. Apart from 'Bal Ganesh' and the 'Hanuman' series, most of the Indian animated films fail to grab eyeballs. Two peppy songs sung by Shaan are an add on to the film. 'Chhota Bheem' movie is not as entertaining as 'Hanuman'. If the film attains box office success, the producers plan to make more 'Chhota Bheem' movies with bigger budget.

The television success will help the film in attracting viewers. Made with a budget of nearly Rs 4 crore, 'Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan' is most likely to recover its cost.

'Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan' has an average storyline and special effects. Thanks to better animated Hollywood films even the young audiences have higher expectations now. Television popularity of Chhota Bheem can work as a saving grace for the film.
