BANGALORE: Excise Minister M P Renukacharya and BJP legislator Belur Gopalakrishna — staunch loyalists of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa — have urged the BJP leadership to prevent state leaders from criticising the former CM.Addressing newsmen here on Friday, the two leaders felt that state BJP president K S Eshwarappa’s remark that as long as Yeddyurappa gets absolved from all corruption charges there is no possibility of his being considered for the post of CM has hurt the latter’s feelings. “One cannot be dubbed a convict merely on the basis of facing charges. We are anguished at Eshwarappa’s statement. We request the party high command to end this trend,” they chorused.Renukacharya, however, added that “all is for good” and that the war of words between the two leaders would soon settle down. “Yeddyurappa had immensely contributed to strengthening the party in the state; criticising him will not augur well for the party. He must be apprised on his future role in the party without delay,” he added. The minister also added that the agony suffered by Yeddyurappa led him to react adversesly against Eshwarappa recently. They also appealed to party central leaders to acknowledge Yeddyurappa’s contribution to the party and hold talks with him to resolve the leadership issue.
