HYDERABAD: A Telugu translation of Satyajit Ray’s English book, Our Films and Their Films was launched at the Prasad Labs preview theatre in the city on Monday.Satyajit Ray is regarded as one of the greatest auteurs of 20th century cinema. He started his career as a commercial artist.  He was drawn into independent film-making after meeting the French film maker, Jean Renoir and after viewing the Italian neo-realist film, Bicycle Thieves during a visit to London.  The work which has been translated by Sowmiya, was launched at an event attended by Suresh Babu, Mohan Krishna and Chakravarthi.  Chakravarthi, speaking about the book said, “The book is a collection of essays where Ray speaks about Indian films. He then goes onto talk about Hollywood and works of specific film-makers like Charlie Chaplin and Akira Kurosawa and film movements like neo-realism. He emphasised the fact that Indian films lack a coherent narrative.” KL Prasad, film writer and vice-president of Hyderabad Film Club said, “There are many things happening silently in the Telugu film industry and people should know more about them and argue about the changes.”  The event was followed by screening of three short films, the Elephant Dream, Sintel, Big Buck Bunny.
