MADIKERI: With mild rainfall being witnessed since June 1, the monsoon rains have seemingly entered the district. On Friday, the heavy rains that lashed the city proved to be a source of relief for farmers. The farmers, especially those staying in areas affected by scarcity, were anticipating the rains. As per the details, Kodagu has received average rainfall in 2011 which has touched 255.10 mm. By May end, it had received 203.44 mm of rainfall and this year. In 2009, it had received 245.17 mm rainfall.
Madikeri taluk has received 316.35 mm of rainfall this year as compared to 272.69 mm of last year. Virajpet taluk registered 247.30 mm of rains by May end and in 2010, it was 159.34 mm.Somwarpet taluk witnessed 201.66 mm rains till May end this year. On Friday, the district received an average rainfall of 37.86 mm as compared to last year's 13.53 mm. The total amount of rainfall recorded between January and June 3 was 306 mm and last year it was 216.97 mm.

Napoklu, Kakkabbe and other places have received heavy rainfall this year when compared to other parts of the district. Bhaghamandla has received the lowest rainfall this year.
