New Delhi: Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul Bhatt has become embroiled in an international terror investigation.
Sources say Rahul Bhatt - a trainer at a posh gymnasium in Mumbai - had befriended terror suspect David Coleman Headley at the same gym during Headley's time in Mumbai. When Rahul Bhatt heard the news about his arrest, he had volunteered to share whatever information he had about Headley with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the terror charges.
The NIA had earlier asked Rahul Bhatt not to leave the city and Home Ministry officials said a team would question Rahul again as it was quite natural for anyone not being able to tell everything of meetings with Headley in one or two questioning sessions.
"It is a long and detailed probe covering all aspects of Headley who had visited India nine times in three years, and Rana, who had travelled across India extensively," an official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
"Rahul Bhatt and the other three are fully cooperating with the police and NIA. All of them have been asked not to leave Mumbai for some time," the source said on condition of anonymity.
However, in what will be a relief to Rahul Bhatt, Home Ministry sources have now said that he is not a suspect in the case, but that efforts are on to ascertain if he had unwittingly helped Headley. He is now being treated as a witness in the case.
On Tuesday, Rahul Bhatt told NIA sleuths that he had introduced Bollywood actor (and his cousin) Emraan Hashmi to Headley. Sources have told CNN-IBN that two actresses were also introduced to Headley by Rahul Bhatt, but the sources refused to name them.
NIA has booked Headley and his accomplice - Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, Tahawwur Rana - under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for conspiring to wage a war against country.
