KOCHI: Advocate General K P Dandapani inaugurated the Weight Loss Clinic by the department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at PVS Memorial Hospital, Kochi. IMA Kochi president Dr Abraham Varghese, medical superintendent Dr B Ramesh, Dr Mini G Pillai, Dr K Prakash, Dr G N Ramesh, Dr Prakash Zacharias and Dr Manoj Jacob were also present. The clinic will offer weight loss solutions through laparoscopic surgery, to patients suffering from excess weight related to obesity or lifestyle. The clinic will perform Bariatric surgery.While under the treatment, patients would have to stay in the hospital for 3-4 days. The surgical team consists of laparoscopic surgeons, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, pulmonologist, dietician and psychologist. “Available statistics show that obese individuals risk an increase of 55 per cent in the mortality rate, 70 per cent increase in coronary artery disease, 75 per cent increase in stroke, 40 per cent increase in diabetes and nearly one third of them have sleep disorders and respiratory problems,” a spokesperson of PVS Hospital said.
