Puri to have super-speciality hospital

A 200-bed super-speciality hospital will be established at Puri before the Nabakalebara of the Trinity in 2015. The hospital will have state-of-art facilities with six ICUs. The State Government has sanctioned Rs 15 crore for the first phase work.

Officials said the district jail adjoining the headquarters hospital would be shifted to Sipasarubali village under Brahmagiri tehsil to carve out land for the hospital.

This was discussed at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Secretary B K Patnaik at Bhubaneswar recently and a letter in this regard was received by the district administration on Tuesday.

Accordingly, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has been asked to furnish a report on the availability of land.

Free service to devotees: Civic authorities have decided not to auction the shoe stand outside the Puri temple and deploy staff to operate it. Henceforth, devotees will not have to pay for keeping footwear at the stand.

This was resolved at the municipal council meeting on Tuesday that was presided over by the Municipal Chairperson Shantilata Pradhan.

Vice-chairperson Sabhyasachi Mohapatra, who was divested of his statutory responsibility to head the civic body health services some years back, was entrusted with the job by the council.

Members expressed concern over gross irregularities in expenditure during the Rath Yatra as the officials concerned failed to place the statement of expenses incurred before the council.

The council decided to transfer all employees who completed three years of service at the Puri Municipality.
