Pune: Two soldiers of the Rajputana Rifles regiment of the Indian Army have been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl in Pune.
The teenager, a college student, was allegedly raped on the night of April 7. The jawans have been identified as Rajnish Kumar Suresh Chandra and Saminder Singh Nepali.
The duo was produced in the Morwadi court on Friday. The court sent both the accused to police custody till April 15.
Police are waiting for the girl's medical report.
"They (Army) have supported us and condemned the incident. They are willing to help us," said Pune ACP Vishnu Mane.
The case was registered with Sanghvi police station in Pune on Thursday night.
The incident happened when the girl, who belongs to a village on the outskirts of Pune, was going with a friend when the two accused accosted her and allegedly committed the crime.
