Puducherry: Terming the demonetisation move as 'ridiculous' and 'unwise', Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Thursday alleged the country's economy had been badly hit and demanded that the Centre roll back the scheme in the larger interest of the people.
Addressing a demonstration sponsored by the ruling Congress here to condemn the Centre's move, he hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "causing hardships and misery" to the common man by banning high-value currencies without reportedly making alternative arrangements for the smooth functioning of the economy.
"The scrapping of high-value currency notes has landed farmers, daily wage earners and petty vendors in deep misery," he said.
No one should twist the objection raised by Congress to demonetisation as the party was only opposed to the sudden implementation of the scheme without making alternative arrangements, he added.
The Congress in Puducherry would continue to protest in different forms until the Centre rolled back its decision, Narayanasamy said.
Ministers, MLAs and functionaries of the PCC were among those who raised slogans condemning the demonetisation.
