The state government cannot treat prisoners as chief guests in the jails, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting the jail wardens of Viyyur Central Jail, who were injured in a clash between the jail inmates here the other day.
The prisoners who have been shifted to the Central Jail here from Kannur are political party workers sentenced to life term for murder, and they are not freedom fighters, he said.
“The incident which took place here should not have happened under any circumstance. The political prisoners are regular offenders and they verbally abuse the jail officials for petty things. The political parties blindly supporting their acts merely for political causes is not a good trend,” the minister said.
