NAYARAMBALAM( NJARACKAL):  The close friends and family members of CBI officer P G Haridath, who committed suicide on Thursday, believe that work pressure led to his death. Some of them told ‘Express’ that he was unhappy with the job and was planning to resign. Haridath’s brother-in-law Rajesh said: “He often said that the work was very difficult. So we suggested him to quit the job. He had been on leave for the past two weeks. He was sincere to his job.”One of his close friends said on condition of anonymity that Haridath, soon after joining the CBI as a sub-inspector in 1984, had told him that the job never suited a person like him. “Two months ago he told me that his superiors were putting pressure on him regarding the investigation of the Sampath murder case. Haridath felt secluded in the office so that he availed of medical leave later. He also told me about the plans to quit the job as he was finding it hard to survive in the CBI,” he said. Venu, brother of Haridath, said he had been good in studies and was a voracious reader. “We do not know what really made him do this. As far as his job was concerned, he was very sincere. Last week also he travelled to Bangalore as part of investigation,” he said. One of his neighbours said that Haridath was seen going to temple just before the incident. “He used to go temple every day. Even just an hour before the incident we had seen him coming from the temple. We tried to speak to him but he stepped into the house,” another neighbour said. P G Haridath was the son of the late Gopalan and Nirupama of Padinjarekut House in Nayarambalam. He had graduated in physics from SNM College, Maliankara. He had cleared the HDC examination for the bank accountant. He had also passed the railway assistant station master’s test. Before joining the Railways, the results of the CBI sub-inspector exam was announced and he preferred the job in the CBI. He was married to Nisha in 1989.His father, who participated in World War II,  died three years ago. His mother died on Friday morning, six hours after the death of the her son. She was 86. Both were cremated in the compound of their house on Friday evening.
