BHUBANESWAR: With the Jagatsinghpur district administration and anti-Posco activists at loggerheads, the Left parties have threatened to observe Orissa bandh if the police use force to enter Gobindpur and Dhinkia to acquire land for the 12-million tonne steel plant. CPI (M-L) Liberation, CPI (M-L) New Democracy, SUCI (Communist) and All India Students’ Association on Sunday joined forces and strongly condemned the deployment of security forces in the two gram panchayats for facilitating land acquisition and demolition of the betel vines. The attempt to use force to enter the villages, where the people are offering strong resistance, has exposed the real face of the State Government which is bending backwards to please the Korean steel major Posco, a spokesperson for the Left parties said. Alleging huge kickbacks by the corporate house to the Government, the parties demanded that the latter must protect the livelihood of the local inhabitants and not snatch the same. By thwarting the move of the huge police force, the villagers have displayed tremendous courage, CPI (M-L) New Democracy’s Bhala Chandra Sarangi said and added a delegation of the Left parties has proceeded to the region to extend support to their movement. However, if the Government does not relent, the parties will call Orissa bandh to lodge their protest.
