New Delhi: The Twitteratti is at it yet again. The joke this time is on NCP strongman and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and starlet Poonam Pandey whose "assets" were the target of much hilarity on Twitter on Monday.
Clearly, the hash tags '#IamPawar' and 'Poonam Pandey', when trending over 24 hours on Twitter, do not make for solemn tweeting. As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Cabinet declared their assets in an effort to boost transparency, the twiteratti had its claws out to take a dig at Pawar and Pandey over their individual declarations.
Still recovering from the after effects of Anna Hazare's campaign, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken a step forward towards transparency. The PMO website now contains details of the net financial worth of his entire cabinet.
But not many bought Pawar’s admission that his own wealth is just Rs 7 crore. His party colleague Praful Patel is personally worth Rs 34 crore.
"If all we netajis declare our actual worth then Bill Gates would be queueing for a BPL card. #IamPawar", a tweet read.
Rajesh Kalra posted "Poonam Pandey and #IamPawar trending on twitter right now.While both are linked to cricket,one believes in revealing,the other in concealing" inviting retweets.
The more unbelievable the claim, more incredulous the jokes got.
'Rofl Indian' said "Wankhede stadium is a stupid kho-kho ground with 1500 seats". While another user, apparently mistrustful of Bollywood publicists posted "Kareena Kapoor: My publicist is not responsible for putting new stories every single day in the papers #IAmPawar".
Innovative user GhantaGuy Shivam went a step ahead with ghetto. "'We didn't eat no Apple, yo!' - Adam and Eve #IAmPawar".
The trend, believed to been sparked off by Faking News, known for its satirical take on news and events, said "I take only 1 per cent commission - Zardari. #IamPawar" to which blogger Ramesh Srivats commented "And @fakingnews creates the ultimate movement - #IamPawar".
But Poonam Pandey had her share of humorous tweets slamming her move to "partially strip" for Team India, balking on a promise she made last year.
An indignant user commented on Twitter "So now Indian team must be partially motivated?" Pandey posted a steamy photo on her Twitter feed in thongs that went viral on the net. But user Sanjay Bhatia summed it up with "Too late, too little, who cares?"
