ALUVA: Elaborate arrangements have been made by the police under the direct supervision of SP K P Philip to ensure the safety of devotees and the smooth conduct of Mahasivarathri festival at Aluva. About 1,540 police personnel, including 15 Dy SPs, 45 CIs, 209 SIs and 240 woman police constables will be deployed in the festival area, bathing ghats and Aluva town during the festival.A special police team in mufti under the control of DySP (Special Branch) A Anilkumar will be deployed to nab pickpockets and anti-social elements. The temporary bridge constructed across the Periyar was inspected by PWD engineers and the KSEB Inspectorate officials, said DySP R Salim. Only 400 people will be allowed to pass through the temporary bridge at a time.The road side vendors will not be allowed 50 metres around the festival area. Begging has been banned in the Aluva municipal area.The service of six boats equipped with life buoys and rescue equipment will be arranged at the bathing ghats in the Periyar. Ten ambulance vehicles under the supervision of medical officers will be put on standby on the sandbed.Rowdies and goons will be handled sternly by the Special Squad. Additional policemen would be deployed at the railway station. About 50 CCTV cameras will be installed in sensitive junctions in the town. CI S Jayakrishnan and SI Nishad Ibrahim will be on special duty at the manalpuram. Meanwhile, ADGP Chandrasekharan Nair and IG Padmakumar visited the manalpuram and evaluated the security arrangements.
