Hyderabad: The seizure of 'LSD biscuits' by the police in the city has the parents of school going kids a worried lot. It also raises questions on how deep the rot is.
The Hyderabad police have busted another drug racket that laced biscuits with psychotropic drugs before selling it to needy customers. The police have arrested nine people for peddling drugs and seized cocaine, MDMA, LSD stamps, LSA seeds, Charas, ecstasy pills and LSD laced biscuits from their possession.
Earlier this month, the Telangana Excise department busted a drug racket in the city, which exposed how school and college going children were addicted to drugs and were found on the list of regular clients of the drug peddlers.
Worried over the developments, Ashish Naredi, a parent, told CNN-News18, "It's shocking that even biscuits are being laced with drugs. It's a clear sign that the drugs mafia has spread its tentacles wide and deep. We hope and pray that the government goes to the root of the racket and spares no one."
"Looking at the level at which these peddlers are operating, the entire society should take up the responsibility of nurturing and paving the path of the child in the direction of a bright and clean future. Every parent must be aware of what is happening around and educate our kids properly so that they are in a position to choose between right and wrong," said Aravinda Jata.
The Hyderabad Schools Parents Association and schools and colleges in the city are conducting awareness campaigns against the drug abuse and sensitising students against its devastating effects.
Meanwhile, ace Tollywood director Puri Jagannath appeared before SIT officials for questioning. The director was grilled by officials for his alleged links with arrested drug peddlers. The officials prepared questions as per the evidence they found in investigations.
The Excise department had summoned 12 Telugu film industry artists after their names appeared in the mobile records of arrested drug peddlers.
Three prominent actors and two actresses, among others, will be appearing before investigation officers in the coming days for questioning.
