New Delhi: Google is shutting down Orkut, its "first foray into social networking," to focus on YouTube, Blogger, and Google+ services that have proven more popular. The technology titan will pull the plug on 10-year-old Orkut on September 30.
Chances are that you didn't log in to your Orkut account in a long time, but you might want to store your Orkut memories for posterity even after when it downs its shutters for good.
Google gives us an easy option to download some of your Orkut information as HTML files and JPEG images which include: your profile, scraps received, testimonials received, activities and your photos.
To download your Orkut information, go to the Google Takeout page, click Choose services and then select Orkut and then click Create archive.
It may take some time for your archive to be ready (You can also choose to be alerted over email) and when its is click on the download link to get a ZIP forder containing your information.
Though Orkut officially shuts down on September 30, you can save your Orkut information till September 2016.
