PUDUCHERRY: Charging that the entire election department has become dysfunctional, former Chief Minister V Vaithilingam on Friday slammed the election department for failing to take action against those government employees who were allegedly involved in canvassing for the AINRC candidate in the Indira Nagar assembly constituency.Vaithilingam said that the election officer was informed about the canvassing of government employees but the officer insisted on a complaint and was silent on the issue.Vaithilingam said the officer should have viewed the video clippings taken by his own officials of the department. The Leader of opposition reiterated his charge that Chief Minister N Rangasamy failed to approach the Centre and get funds for the developmental schemes of the state.He claimed that Union minister and Member of Parliament from Puducherry, V Narayansamy, had helped in seeking the funds for various schemes during his tenure as Chief Minister.He said in Puducherry the funds obtained under JNNRUM for the purchase of deluxe buses were deposited in banks and the buses were purchased after a long delay.Pointing out that as many as 24 murders had taken place in Puducherry after the AINRC government assumed charge, he said Congress would continue to raises questions about the deteriorating law and order situation in the territory.Vaithilingam said Indira Nagar constituency lacked even basic amenities and the funds allocated for the development of the constituency did not reach the people. He demanded an enquiry to find out the beneficiaries of the funds.
