BANGALORE: In a broad daylight dacoity, a gang of 15 unidentified miscreants attacked the employees of a private firm engaged in depositing money into ATMs and escaped with Rs 1.91 crore cash in R T Nagar II Block at 12 pm on Monday. Four employees of the firm were also injured in the incident.The money was in possession of CMS Agency, a private firm, which deposits money into ATMs of various banks in the city. Car driver Venkatesh and gunman Somanna have sustained minor injuries in the incident. The two were carrying the money in a Chevrolet Tavera along with Naveen Chandra and Anand Kumar, also the employees of the firm. Police said that the four deposited money at Corporation Bank’s ATM near BDA Complex in R T Nagar and were heading towards other ATM centres in the vicinity. As they were passing through R T Nagar 7th Cross, a Tavera intercepted their vehicle while another Tavera blocked them from behind.“About 15 miscreants who had covered their faces with masks got down from the two vehicles and before the four staffers could realise what was happening, they smashed their car windshields with machetes. The four were dragged out of the vehicle and assaulted. The miscreants threatened them with a revolver and gun. They snatched away the gun which Somanna was carrying. Later, they took away about ten boxes containing cash. In a whisk, they loaded the boxes into their two vehicles and fled from the scene. The entire episode took just a minute or two,” the police explained.Police are thoroughly interrogating the four persons, who witnessed the incident. “The miscreants might have followed them from the place where they started. A professional gang could be behind the incident and might have planned the dacoity well in advance. However, there are no main clues about them. We are also going through the footage of the CCTVs installed at traffic signals in the surrounding areas to know the miscreants’ movements,” the police claimed.However, sources added that the registration numbers of the miscreants’ vehicles were given by the victims and investigations revealed they had used fake numbers. Finger print experts and sniffer dog squad were pressed into service to gather information. City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji and other senior police officers inspected the spot.Several teams, including the DCP North squad, ACP J C Nagar squad, CCB team and others are on the look out for the miscreants. A case has been registered in RT Nagar police station in this connection.
