1. In this Gujarat village, at least 13 men don't have a kidney
The makeshift tarpaulin hut, which was supposed to provide some peace and quiet to the Malik family, is full of people. Aamir Malik's wife tries to pacify their baby daughter while the rest of the family tries to explain a murky story to the visitors — police, health officials, politicians and media.
Malik, a 27-year-old cattle trader, was allegedly cheated into selling his kidney to pay off debts. It was the FIR lodged by Malik that blew the lid off an organ racket in Pandoli village, where at least 13 men — between the ages of 20 and 35 — have a missing kidney, the Indian Express reported.
2. World T20: India bars Pak envoys from visiting the Eden
India has denied permission to Delhi-based five Pakistani diplomats to travel to Kolkata for T20 World Cup cricket match between the two countries, on the ground that the officials allegedly belong to the spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and armed forces.
The match is scheduled for March 19 in Kolkata after it was shifted from Dharamshala on security grounds. India has assured foolproof security to the Pakistani cricket team.
“This is not denial of visa, but travel permission by MEA to Delhi-based Pak diplomats. We have cleared permission for two diplomats of Pakistan. Remaining five belong to ISI and defence,“ a senior Indian government source told Economic Times.
3. BJP leader who booked train for Modi in 2014 in fare mess
A BJP leader who has been receiving reminders from the railways to pay ` 12.3 lakh for booking a train for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in 2014 has threatened to commit suicide if the party doesn’t foot the bill soon.
Vinod Samaria headed the BJP’s Fatehpur Sikri unit in UP two years ago when the party booked a train to ferry supporters from Agra to Lucknow for the then prime ministerial candidate Modi’s rally. The reservation was made in Samaria’s name, the Hindustan Times reported.
4. Vijay Mallya's men diverted cash for their own use: ED probe
The Enforcement Directorate has found "evidence" that a few senior officials of Vijay Mallya-led UB Group may have allegedly diverted money lent to Kingfisher Airlines for their personal use, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
According to the Indian Express, while probing an alleged money laundering case registered against Mallya, the ED has already grilled Ravi Nedungadi, former president and CFO at UB Group and A Raghunathan, former CFO of Kingfisher Airlines, over the alleged default of over Rs 900 crore loan from IDBI Bank. On Tuesday, both were questioned by the CBI on the utilisation of loans given to Kingfisher.
5. Minister rapped for wife's name on school plaque
Trouble is brewing for another AAP minister. The minister for women and child development, Sandeep Kumar, was pulled up by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy , Manish Sisodia, on Monday for having insisted that his wife's name be inscribed on a plaque that was to be put up in a school during the inauguration of classrooms. The minister reportedly also publicly humiliated the principal of the school after she objected to this demand.A complaint was made to the chief minister and Kumar has been made to apologise to the principal.
The new classrooms in Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Sultanpuri were to be inaugurated on March 10, the Times of India reported. Accordingly , on March 4, the minister's office issued the text for the plaque, which was then forwarded to the contractor. On March 9, the principal came to know that the name of minister's wife was to be mentioned on the plaque and she called the minister to say that this could not be permitted as only the elected representative's name could be used for such official purposes.
6. Netaji pics in sadhu's trunk
The mystery surrounding Gumnami Baba alias Bhagwanji -believed by many to be Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose -took an interesting turn on Tuesday when photographs of the Bose family were found among the sadhu's belongings in the Faizabad district treasury .
While one picture showed 22 members of the family , another was of parents Jankinath Bose and Prabhawati Bose, the Times of India reported. Shakti Singh, owner of Ram Bhawan where Gumnaami Baba spent the last years of his life, said, “The two pictures were the prominent find of the day."
A number of telegrams written to Bhagwanji by Azad Hind Fauj veterans -Pabitra Mohan Roy (senior officer of INA's intelligence wing) and Sunil Kant Gupta -on Durga Puja and January 23 (Netaji's birth anniversary) have also been found, say sources.
7. SC Commission blames IIM-I for student’s poor performance
The Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I) has been blamed by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for failing to provide a ‘conducive atmosphere’ to its Scheduled Caste (SC) student, Sakshika Raghav.
Raghav had joined a five-year integrated programme in management (IPM) course of IIM-I in 2012. Her first-year CGPA (scores of all three semesters) had fallen short of the required CGPA as she had done badly in nonmanagement subjects such as swimming, Bhagwad Gita etc. She was asked to reappear or leave IIM-I and opted to quit, the Hindustan Times reported.
8. Will Bajaj's Allianz Crumble?
Differences have cropped up between insurance joint venture partners Bajaj Finserv and Germany's Allianz Group.The bone of contention is the price that Allianz will have to pay to raise its stake in its two JVs in line with government's decision to allow 49% foreign shareholding in Indian insurance companies.
Bajaj and Allianz entered into an agreement in April 2001under which the German insurer had the option to raise its stake in Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance after 15 years.
The structure, created before pricing norms under foreign direct investments were formalised, allowed Allianz to increase stake at considerably cheaper valuations, the Economic Times reported.
9. RSS No 3 Hosabale says his UP transfer not for polls
Senior pracharak Dattatreya Hosabale, presently number three in the RSS hierarchy who has been deputed to UP, said on Tuesday that his transfer to Lucknow was not because of the elections scheduled in 2017 or political reasons.
Hosabale said that he would continue with his present responsibilities of overseeing socio-cultural reach of the sangh across the country.
“It is an organisation's decision and has nothing to do with UP elections.Even when I was in Patna before this I was not remotely concerned with the elections,“ Hosabale told Economic Times.
10. BJP fires 12 MPs from panels for low attendance
Sending a tough signal that it expects its MPs to take work seriously , BJP has dropped a dozen members, including Vinod Khanna, S S Ahluwalia, Dushyant Singh, Ramesh Pokhriyal and Varun Gandhi, from three parliamentary panels for inadequate attendance.
The BJP brass used the attendance record for meetings as a criterion to assess the work of MPs in the estimates, public accounts, and public undertakings committees, the Times of India reported. Six MPs were removed from the estimates committee and three each from PAC and COPU.
