After former Mumbai top cop Rakesh Maria was accused of having close ties with Peter Mukerjea, the husband of Sheena Bora murder accused Indrani Mukherjea, it now emerges that current police commissioner Ahmed Javed knew the couple socially.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that Javed had invited Peter and Indrani Mukerjea to his personal Eid party in July 2014 at Maharashtra Police Officers Mess in Worli area of Mumbai.
After taking charge as the Mumbai Police chief, Javed had said that the probe into the Sheena Bora murder would not have any effect of the change of guard. He had, however, said that there was scope of improvement in the case.
"There is always a scope of improvement. Improvement is our aim. The case should be handled properly and the evidence put together properly before the court," the Mumbai Police commissioner had said.
Javed replaced Maria as the Mumbai Police chief in a sudden decision, even as the latter was personally monitoring the case. Apart from overseeing the probe, Maria was personally interrogating all witnesses and accused in the case.
The Maharashtra government had, however, stated that the decision was purely a procedural one and had no bearing to a particular case.
