TIRUCHY: Police have registered a case against former minister K N Nehru, Tiruvarur DMK district secretary Poondi Kalaivanan, former deputy mayor of Tiruchy M Anbalagan and a few others for assaulting a deputy warden for stopping their car from entering the prison premises here on Monday. It is said, Nehru along with others went to visit former Kuttalam MLA P Kalyanam who was lodged in the Central Prison around 10.15 am.Grade II prison warden L Veeramani (30), on gate duty appealed to them to walk inside instead. Nehru then allegedly abused him. Veeramani spoke to higher officials, who asked him to allow only Nehru in the car. Veeramani conveyed this to the DMK men, but a few cadre accompanying Nehru allegedly caught hold of Veeramani’s shirt and assaulted him to make their way in.Veeramani, who sustained injury, was admitted to the GH. Jailor Senthamarai Kannan lodged a complaint with KK Nagar police. Inspector Periyayya registered case (Crime No 96/2012) against KN Nehru and others under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 294 (B) (using obscene words), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 352 (assaulting), 506 II (life threatening) and 307 (attempting to murder).KK Nagar police went in search of Nehru at his residence in Thillai Nagar but he was not present. The police seized his vehicle from the DMK office at Thillai Nagar and kept it at the KK Nagar police station.
