Nandigram: CBI to probe police firing
The Nandigram firing was referred to Calcutta HC which ordered that the CBI conduct a probe into the case.

New Delhi: Nandigram is simmering, and the heat is being felt till Delhi where both Houses of Parliament are being adjourned time and again as political leaders are disagreeing over every aspect of the issue.

The case of the West Bengal police firing at and killing 14 villagers has rocked Parliament and the debate is on about whether this is the beginning of the end for West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.

The Nandigram firing was referred to the Calcutta High Court which had ordered that the CBI conduct a probe into the case.

On Friday, a 10-member CBI team headed by Joint Director (East) B B Mishra, reached Nandigram to probe the circumstances that led the police to fire at villagers.

Meanwhile, Nandigram is continuing to burn as clashes between CPI-M and Jami Bachao Committee workers are still on.

A police convoy comprising three buses and 10 cars were stopped for over an hour at Heria, near Nandigram, by the local people.

West Bengal government officials are now awaiting the results of the CBI probe, which in turn will help the HC deliver a verdict.

In New Delhi, BJP leader in Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj described the mood in the NDA camp saying, "NDA will not let the House function till their demands on Nandigram are not met. They want a parliamentary delegation to be sent to Nandigram. They want a statement condemning the incident in Nandigram to be made in both Houses of parliament."
