HYDERABAD: Even with the monsoon reaching Andhra Pradesh, not even 50 per cent of the desilting work of storm water drains have been completed, TDP floor leader in GHMC, Singireddy Srinivas Reddy said on Thursday.Half-a-dozen corporators of the Telugu Desam party (TDP) led by Singireddy Srinivas Reddy took media personnel to a few nalas in Chintal basthi and Masab Tank and showed them the clogged nalas there.“The desiting of nalas should have been completed last month but not even 50 per cent has been completed. GHMC Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and commissioner Sameer Sharma must be blamed for their failure to monitor the desilting works,” Singi Reddy said.Last year, as many as 11 persons lost their lives when they fell into open nalas during heavy rains but still the authorities have not taken action, he said. He warned that if any such incidents happen again, the TDP will not hesitate to place the victim’s bodies in front of the Mayor’s house. He demanded the Mayor and Commissioner to immediately hold an all-party meeting with floor leaders to discuss the nala desilting works as well as placing of the Kirloskar Report which carried out a detailed study on storm water drains in the twin cities.
