Muthoot Pappachan Group ready to invest in solar energy sector

Stating that many corporates are ready to invest in non-conventional energy generation projects in the state if the government provided adequate infrastructural facilities, the Muthoot Pappachan Group said that they were ready to invest in solar energy if the State Government came forward with a solar energy policy like in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing newsmen here on Thursday, Muthoot Pappachan Group chairman John Muthoot said that there was tremendous scope for tapping solar energy.

The state has the potential to generate around 2,000 MW of wind energy from Ramakkalmedu in Idukki and Kanjikode and Attappadi in Palakkad district, he said.

Pointing out that the state at present is generating only 22 MW of wind power, he said that the Muthoot Group had invested Rs 150 crore in the wind energy sector in Kanyakumari district.

He said that the Muthoot Pappachan Foundation had also initiated a directory of blood donors in the country, which would be one of the largest.

The directory will be launched on October 1 on National Voluntary Blood Donation day. Along with its staff and customers who are voluntarily signing up in the Life Blood Directory, the effort is to bring together those interested in the cause to join the Directory and take the message forward, he said.

“We are focussing on the theme HEEL - Health, Education, Environment and Livelihood.

Under the theme ‘health’ we are launching the Muthoot Pappachan Life Blood Directory responding to our country’s requirement for blood, saving many lives,” he said.

As part of the commitment to theatre and performing arts, the Foundation has decided to join hands with Soorya Stage and Film Society in their endeavour to promote Indian art and culture through the Soorya Festival 2012 -13.
