Newly appointed MPCC president Arun Yadav on Wednesday condemned cane-charge by police on youth Congress activists when they were staging a demonstration in front of state Home Minister Babulal Gaur's residence.

In a statement issued in Bhopal, Yadav said the "use of force on Youth Congress activists was totally condemnable." The BJP rule in the state since 2003 has been marked by scams and the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam was the biggest of all, Yadav said.

The MPPEB scam has ruined the future of thousands of youths and the Congress activists' demonstration on Tuesday was only a manifestation of their agony, he said.

Supporting the demand for a CBI inquiry into the MPPEB scam, Yadav said use of force would not be able to silence the pursuit for justice. Police had on Tuesday resorted to lathicharge on Youth Congress workers after nearly 500 of them tried to cross barricades and enter Gaur's residence.

A police official had suffered injuries, while Congress sources said a number of party workers were hurt in the police action.
