Mizoram Finance Minister Lalsawta on Thursday presented budget 2016-17 with proposals worth Rs 8,038.39 crore and supplementary demands for the current fiscal amounting to Rs 1,126.99 crore.
In a press briefing after presenting the budget in the state assembly, Lalsawta said that the government proposed to levy entry tax on commodities, including those purchased online, from April 1.
However, he said the 'Mizoram Entry Tax Act, 2015' would not be implemented if the Parliament legislates the GST Bill during the current session as the GST would cover all the items under the state's Entry Tax Act.
He had failed to present regular budgets during the budget sessions in 2014 and 2015 as there was no clarity on plan fund allocation and central fund sharing pattern.
