RAMANATHAPURAM: Velu (30), a fisherman from Vanagiri village who was reported missing five days ago, was rescued by fishermen from Pamban on Friday, near Katchathivu.Five fishermen Rajkumar (21), Silambu (19), Selvin (20), Velu (30 ) of Vanagiri and Anjappan (70) of Santhanpettai near Nagapattinam, had set out to sea in a boat from Pudupattinam on December 18 and the boat got damaged due to rough weather. When water started gushing in the fishermen jumped into the sea and began swimming holding on to an ice box and diesel cans.Anjappan could not swim in the rough sea. Rajkumar, Selvin and Silambu were swimming using diesel cans as buoys. Velu drifted away from them and was swimming alone near Katchathivu.Meanwhile, three fishermen, including Parathan and Gnanaseelan of Pamban, noticed a black object floating in sea and rescued Velu. He was taken to Rameswaram shore and admitted to the GH. However, the fate of other four fishermen was not known till Friday.
